Building the M3EP Community Across Cultures and Countries

With more than 20 nationalities represented among its students, the M3EP programme offers a truly multinational experience.

This cultural and national diversity is an important part of the programme and enriches classroom discussions by bringing together different perspectives, experiences and approaches to environmental economics and policy.

But the M3EP experience extends far beyond the classroom.

Social activities, shared experiences and friendships are an important part of building what has become the M3EP identity and community.

The Department of Food and Resource Economics at the University of Copenhagen, together with the M3EP partner universities in Heidelberg, Milan, Prague and Warsaw, supports opportunities for students to meet, collaborate and build connections throughout their studies.

One example is the study-start welcome event in Copenhagen. Another is the M3EP football team, originally established by students from the first cohort and now proudly continued by the second cohort.

Even the team jerseys have a connection to the programme. Designed by students from the first cohort, they incorporate climate stripes – a visual reminder of one of the major environmental challenges frequently addressed throughout M3EP.

Although a recent match ended in a narrow 0–2 defeat, the smiles on the players’ faces captured something more important: the enthusiasm, friendship and community spirit that continue to grow within M3EP.

Academic excellence, international diversity and a strong student community all form part of the M3EP experience.
